A Notary Public must reasonably establish the identity of each signer; according to the Texas Civil Code any one of the following items, if current or issued within 5 years (not expired).

1. A Texas driver’s license issued by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles; or issued by another state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue drivers' licenses.

2. A Texas identification card (or an identification card issued by another state) provided that it also contains a photograph, description of the person, person's signature, and an identifying number.

3. A United States Passport.

4. A United States military identification card with the required photograph, description of the person, person's signature, and an identifying number;

5. An inmate identification card issued by the sheriff's office or Texas Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

6. An employee identification card issued by an agency or office of the State of Texas.
